Foodie Question of the Day

Do you use a feed reader? (ie Google Reader, Bloglines etc)

If yes, what makes you add one blog and not another?
If no, why not?

—————————————

I use google reader. Its a foodie blogger’s best friend. Seriously.

I dedicated a whole post to it; how to use it complete with pictures and red arrows b/c red arrows help me focus. LOL. Why? Just doing my part to spread the google reader love.

[Note to reader: Google reader’s layout has been updated since I wrote that post but the concept is still the same.]

When I first began blogging I use to add any blog but when I started getting anxious if I couldn’t read them all before the end of the day I knew it was time for some strategery [sic]. I am kinda OCD like that. My google reader must be clear by the time I go to bed. Its ok. You can say it. I am crazy. Unfortunately “mark as all read” has been used a couple times these past few months to keep my sanity.

I think its pretty easy to get in my google reader. Basically if you have a cupcake recipe that I want to make, I’ll add you. If you have alot of pictures, I’ll add you. If you make me laugh, I’ll add you. Obviously I am not a blog snob. Personally not a fan of the half feeds though. But I don’t think my standards are ridiculous. (Hear that Tastespotting?? *shaking fist*)

Hmmm… Ya think that might be the reason why I have over bazillion blogs in my reader?

I so feel your pain. I went to bed with an almost empty reader and this morning? 94 posts to read. I love it though so I really can’t complain.

I use google reader too. I prefer bloglines but it’s so glitchy over there. Boo on them.

I’m a suck for most food blogs as long as they have pictures. However, I delete almost every blog that has a partial feed. They drive me nuts. I usually click over anyway but geez, don’t MAKE me do it.

Oh, yes. I also use Google Reader and I also cannot stand to have any unread entries at the end of the day! Except for Sundays…I often take the day off on Sunday! LOL! I add a blog that interests me, like you, it could be because of cupcakes (I’m easy like that), or if your blog is inspirational or crafty. I’m a big crafter and so that is what I look for a lot. I’m also a fan of all things Etsy, so if you have a great shop with a cute coordinating blog, you are likely to get me there, too. Oh, and contests. I’m a sucker, what can I tell ya!

I use Google Reader and love it. I have categories for my foodie reads, my mom blog reads, my workout/weightloss reads, young fun reads, everything. Plus I love the tags that you can use. I will tag something and then not have to bookmark a zillion pages or anything of the sort. Plus I love the recommended reads that I can peruse. It is like a lazy persons way of finding new blogs!

I rarely read a blog that only posts partially in a reader. It drives me insane and I know some people do it so that they get the advertising revenue but likely I won’t add them or click through. Other than that, I add fairly easily. It is also a way to test out blogs because you may not end up liking them so you can just remove them from your reader after a little while.

I also use GR and have some obsessiveness about clearing it out. The worst is after you’ve been without the internet for a few days! I usually star anything I want to make in the future, then once I make it, I remove the star. Now that they have tags, I’ve started using that instead.

I’m pretty easy too. Basically if your food looks like something I’d want to make, I add you. I remove blogs with 1/2 feeds and don’t add blogs with no pictures. I have mostly food blogs, but also some decorating, craft, and photography blogs. Also, if someone new comments on my blog, I’ll check out their blog and add it a lot of times too.

Also, this might sound crazy, but I have my own blogs in my GR. I usually write posts to be published at a future date. I love the surprise when I check my GR in the morning or evening and I see something of mine. Am I the only one who does this?!?

GR – I’ll add anyone, it’s the not being removed that’s more difficult. I don’t do half feeds. If you have a half feed you will be deleted no ifs ands or buts about it. I’m a picky eater. Even if that one time I found your blog you made something amazing, if on a regular basis you make a lot of seafood or use too many mushrooms you won’t hold my interest and will be deleted. The good news is I usually let me GR get up to about 500 subscriptions before I start deleting, then I’ll get rid of about half when I delete sooo …. you have a while to make a good impression.

    I use Google Reader too.

I don’t add everyone, just those that make me laugh, or have fabulous photography, or update their blogs on a regular basis.

Another GR user who hates 1/2 feeds here!

I don’t know yet what makes me add one blog and not another. guess it just depends on my day! I definitely like to feel some blogs out. I do like to empty the reder out every night and love just finding new entries.

I’m a fairly new GR user, and it’s been great so far. I’ve yet to use categories or tags, but I can see that it will be fabulous. I hate it when I (or someone else) pushes ‘post’ by mistake, or if I need to check out how a layout will work (the preview function doesn’t look like how it looks when published) and GR grabs it and it’s on everyone’s reader. Boo. I’m not obsessive about clearing out my reader. I add a blog when I feel a connection with that blogger for lots of different reasons – or no reason. Sometimes I visit a blog and am surprised that I hadn’t added it.

I use google reader too!! I am not too picky on who I add . Mine is mostly foods , sports and gossip , and a few mommy blogs too . even though I have no kids. I try really hard to have everything read before I go to bed , but most of the time that doesn’t happen! I really love it cause I can use it at work and it looks like i just use google , but really I’m up to date on everything I’m interested in! haha

Google reader for sure! In the beginning, it was hard for me to add random blogs b/c I was scared I wouldn’t be able tot get through them. I totally know what you mean, but I just can’t hit that ‘mark all read’ button in case I miss something!

I usually add people who don’t say thtat everything they make is the perfect version when it obviously isn’t. But, if the pictures are gorgeous, I can’t resist!

I use google reader and I love it. Before I used a GR, I saved all food blogs I read under my favorites tab. It was really annoying and time consuming though to check blogs only to find they hadn’t updated.

When I find a new blog, I throw it in the favorites folder in my blog tab (which is further divided into more tabs…it’s a sickness) for a trial period. Once or twice a week I’ll cycle through them. Any that stick in my mind eventually make it into my reader. Some I keep for the photos even though I would most likely never make anything they post about. Some because they write well and a good laugh is always appreciated. Most though are blogs that I actually make food from.

I will say that I have deleted a few blogs from my reader if they become lackluster. Or if they post too infrequently.

i’m a Bloglines girl! i starting using it before Google Reader came on the scene, and I never made the switch. I’m a pretty easy sell, too.. I’ll add anything with great pictures, a fun recipe or a cheery writer.. and that’s how you ended up on my reader!

I love Google Reader! I can’t read every post everyday though! My reader is made up mostly of food and craft blogs with some fashion, knitting, beauty, ect. thrown in that I find interesting. I have way too many interests lol Good writing and pictures are pretty much my only criteria.

I used to use Bloglines, but converted to Google Reader a while ago and love it (can you believe up until a year or so ago I kept all my fave blogs in my bookmarks folder? Ugh!).

I used to add blogs to my reader left and right, but nowadays I’m a little more strict, just because I didn’t have time to read them the all. I did a major cleaning out of my reader a while ago and kept only those I really love reading (and don’t worry CB, both of your blogs are still in there!)

And I hate partial feeds. About 9 times out of 10 I won’t click through to read the whole post.

I LOVE google reader. It has made it so easy to keep track of the blogs that I follow, and star things that I want to remember for later.
My logic is that I add a blog when I feel the urge to star something in it for later, or if I like something about it and want to know when it is updated.
The worst for me is when I find an old recipe in a blog that I really want to star, but google reader won’t let me go back that far in the blog’s history.
I to like a clean google reader, but a very busy work has not allowed that lately.

I use Google Reader and also have way too many blogs in my queue. I hate when I get backed up and don’t have time to read everything.

I add something when it has content I like, or if it just makes me laugh! You’re in my feed reader, by the way!

Your blog makes me laugh, which is the biggest reason it’s one of my favorite feeds! I, too, am a foodblog whore, with zillions cramming my Google reader–it’s almost a sickness, definitely an obsession of dangerous levels. By the time I shut down my laptop every evening, I am glassy-eyed and zombie-like. But I have an impressive collection of recipes waiting for my attention in the kitchen!
    Thanks for an entertaining blog!

I love Google Reader. And I add random blogs just because I stumble on them and I find them interesting. Or if I’ve entered a contest on one…
And I hear you about having to have them read before going to bed at night. I stopped because my husband made some serious complaints that I was addicted to the internet. Now I’m completely anxious that I have 176 posts that I’m behind on. Ack! OCD is no fun.
