Foodie Question of the Day

March 19, 2009 at 6:16 am 23 comments

What food do you dislike but still prepare/cook/bake for someone you love?

I think most readers know by now that I do not eat bananas.

The soft smushy texture makes me gag. I don’t really like the smell of them either. I think it stems from a childhood memory. I was sick. Not just *cough cough* sick but flu sick and my mom gave me a banana to eat. FYI banana flavored puke is not a good thing. Just saying…

Kinda ironic that I like banana+strawberry smoothies but I think you gotta mix it with other things so it’s not “just” banana flavor. If banana is the star of the show, I probably aint gonna eat it! *pushing the banana cream pie away*

But my bunnies adore bananas so I’ll pinch my nose while unpeeling a banana (I am so talented, no?) for my bunnies. Is that love or what? I won’t even do that for my husband. HAHA

Oh yeah… I don’t do beans either. No side order of beans and rice for me. Just give me my cheese enchiladas with an extra scoop of guacamole and I’m good!

Happy Thursday-It’s-Almost-Friday readers.

I don’t eat meat but I don’t mind cooking it for my hubby. He doesn’t eat red meat so that makes it easier too:) And he is good about cooking it all by his lonesome!

I didn’t know you were vegetarian. Props to you! I couldn’t do it. I don’t eat that much meat but I need chicken and beef now and then. Also a pizza isn’t a pizza without some sausage and/or pepperoni. At least your hubs is self-sufficient. If I don’t cook my hubs will make beans and rice or call for delivery. haha.

Chocolate + mint. Gag me. Really, mostly anything with mint except for gum. But it’s the boyfriend’s favorite combo, so I grin, bear it, and ship the results off to him. Luckily though, I like almost everything. The boyfriend on the other hand…….

Ok check this out. I like york peppermint patties but I don’t like mint chocolate chip ice cream. Weird no? I think mint and chocolate really depends for me. Oh do tell. What are the bf’s foodie no-nos?

Oh the things we do for our bunnies. Mine love bananas too, but I heard it is like rabbit crack so I only give them a teeny bit every once and a while.

Deli meat grosses me out sometimes, but I will still make my girlfriend sandwiches.

You have bunnies too? You are exactly right. You shouldn’t give your bunnies too many sweets. Their diet should be pellets and veggies in limited quantities. Water and hay can be unlimited. I give my bunnies treats (ie apple bits, banana slice, craisins etc) maybe once a month. Sometimes I do 2x a month if there’s a special occasion ;)

Well there was the boston cream pie I made my man for his birthday… bleh! I also make him these big omelet egg scrambles. I love eggs but had a bad artichoke egg breakfast experience so now veggies and eggs mixed together make me want to yak. haha But I’ll still make it for him, just as long as I don’t have to eat it :)

Oh well more for me ;)

The smell of cooked green peppers makes me gag, but I always have to suffer through them when people order them on pizzas. Honestly, just the taste of cheese that’s had peppers on it…barf. Barf barf barf barf dry heave barf.

I admit that I prefer red peppers to green but you could put anything on a pizza and it would taste good IMO (except pineapple. Gross!)

Now bananas… barf gag barf dry heave gag

i know i’m going to get a verbal beat-down, but i’m just not a fan of cheesecake. i’d rather eat…i dunno… cereal from a box. i’m not completely opposed to cheescake; i’d just always be able to think of something i wanted more. not the case with, oh, cookies, brownies, cake, pie, rice pudding, ice cream…etc.

i can see how the texture of ‘nanas would get you, but oh, there’s nothing quite like the perfect, moist, banana bread! ;)

    and a vegetarian who doesn’t like beans?!…?! oh well. i can’s say much- i’m a human who doesn’t like cheesecake. :)

I heart cheesecake. Maybe you haven’t had a REALLY good cheesecake yet? PS. I am not a vegetarian. I wouldn’t survive. I don’t like enough vegetables! haha

So do you like chocolate banana cream pie? There are a lot of foods I don’t like, but I can’t think of anything that I dislike but still make for DH or the kids. The thing DH really likes is fish, especially sushi, and I absolutely will not make it. I don’t know how to make sushi and the smell of fish cooking is enough to make me gag.

Sorry even chocolate couldn’t make me like banana cream pie. I can still taste the smushy bananas…

I’m totally with you on the bananas & the beans. Although I do like a good banana bread on occasion. It’s really the raw kind & the peels as they get warm & start to smell that totally gross me out. Most of my other “dislikes” are due to texture since I can’t swallow them. Slimy things and I don’t get along very well and if I do want to eat them I have to take super tiny bites.

It’s definitely a texture thing for me. Oh and the puke thing too. haha

I made chopped liver for my hubby. Chopped Liver!

I can’t even begin to describe to you how it smelled…or how happy he was to come home to it. What we do for love!
