TWD #24 I didn’t do it! ~ Bart Simpson

Sorry fellow Tuesdays with Dorie-ers and Ashlee of A Year In The Kitchen for my lack of Black and White Banana Loaf on page 232 this week. It just wasn’t in the cards. I’ll be back next week for the Blueberry Sour Cream Ice Cream!

But I didn’t wanna leave you hanging since you stopped by my blog and I am all about instant gratification myself so…

No pitter? No problem!

The last few TWD challenges have made me realize that I am still a novice in the ways of kitchen gadgets and cooking utensils. I have recently added cherry pitter to my list of must-haves (even though I don’t needs) list. In the meantime here’s my alternative for the ghetto cherry pitter-er like me.

1. Take a knife and cut around the seed to half the cherry.

2. Twist the 2 halves in opposite directions until the halves come apart.

3. Using your fingernail dig around/under the seed and pop it out!

4. Voilà. Easy peasy lemon squeezy!

Granted it takes a long time esp if the recipe calls for ALOT of cherries and it makes your fingers looked like you’ve committed a murder but it works. That’s all that matters right? LOL

    It’s the I Didn’t Do It Kid!

I pitted my cherries the exact same way, and was shocked to hear that there was a TOOL that could do it for me. That takes away half the mess, and subsequently half the fun!

Looking forward to your ice cream next week!

I so need to learn more about kitchen utensils and whatnot as well. I see people mentioning some of these things in recipes and they sound like very foreign objects to me. LOL

Sadly, I won’t be able to take advantage of your fabulous tip, since I don’t like cherries. =) Looking forward to the ice cream next week!

Can’t wait to see what you make next week! Thanks so much for the tip! You should have seen the mess I made with that cherry cobbler a few weeks ago! This will help from now on!

You’re a trooper! I put up fruit all year so I always have some in the freezer for recipes and smoothies, but I totally cheat with cherries. I always buy them pre-frozen and de-pitted. It’s just too much work and too much mess!

You are more civilized than I….I just stick my finger right into the cherry and dig it out! Now THAT’S messy! :)

I used a chopstick and that worked great to pit cherries. I have also used a pastry tip (cook’s illustrated idea) and that works well too. I think the chopstick is easiest though. Looks like fun though!

We’ve seen a lot of black and white loafs today so it was fun to come here and see your cherries plus those insanely good shrimp tacos.

Welcome to the cherry pitter owners’ club! It will gather dust all year, but is useful for that one recipe you make per year!

I pit my cherries this way as well, only I get my 5 year old in to help pull the pits out as his fingers are smaller and he gets excited getting to help. I know this won’t last much longer, but for now, he’s my cherry pitter. :-)
