TWD #23: I have a good excuse this time

July 29, 2008 at 3:39 pm 13 comments

I was doing my baking thang, whipping up this week’s TWD recipe – Summer Fruit Galette – when my building starting shaking like a jello mold and T comes running from the bedroom and pulls me into a doorway. OhMyGod.

Late this morning, there was a 5.8 earthquake near my area. My internet and phone went down and I met some new neighbors when we evacuated our building. But my galette had to be halted. The dough is done, the inner circle outlined, the preserves have been applied but I hope you can forgive my tardiness. Looks like it will have to wait until tomorrow.

Thanks to all for text messages and emails. I am ok! My wedding pictures? Not so much. But nothing a new frame won’t fix. I hope all my fellow socal friends are safe esp some LA friends I have not been able to reach by phone yet.

Just my luck, I was on a roadtrip to LA when the quake struck. Good thing I grew up in LA, it’s just business as usual, right? It’s always scary, that’s for sure.

Good to hear you survived the quake with only minor damage. I hope the earth’s crust stays quiet and you are able to relax and get back to baking your galette crust.

Wasn’t that a doozy? I’m a native and that wasn’t fun! Later, I was listening to the CalTech press conference and it is considered a “moderate” earthquake by them…Um, didn’t feel like that as it keep rolling and rolling! Glad to hear that you are okay!
